Reflection
“Combating cyber terrorism is a high priority for the Australian Government, but security experts believe a catastrophic attack is unlikely.” (Stephenson) The chance of cyber terrorism is there but unlikely.
Cyber terrorism is a high priority subject but we believe that it is unlikely for a cyber terrorism attack. Australia wanted an actual definition for the word Cyber terrorism, so that we can better analyze it. The definition we got was “any premeditated, politically motivated attack against information, computer systems, computer programs, and data which results in violence against non-combatant targets by sub-national groups or clandestine agents”. (Stephenson) SO with this information we can better prepare ourselves for this kind of attack.
The US’s Homeland security branch put the following countries: US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK through a Cyber terrorism simulation so that we can make sure we are prepared for such a thing. In this simulation a lot of Australia’s key companies and infrastructural business’ including the Commonwealth Bank, Energex and Telstra. “The exercise will be useful in identifying areas in Australia’s national security architecture that may require further development,” Mr McClelland said.(Stephenson)
We recommend that United Nations Focus there help to countries like The Big 5 for Cyber Terrorism. Because they are more vulnerable because they have more critical business’ that cyber terrorist’s will focus on.
